Albury to Moruya
Albury to Moruya
500km, 80% awesome adventure riding dirt taking in the Murray river, the High Country and the coast. Wet weather wont be a problem with good dirt roads and only minor water crossings closer to the coast however roads in the Maragle Range area of Kosciuszko N.P.were very slippery immediately after rain. Suitable for novice riders.

Albury, Wentworth, Yunta, Marree, Curtain Springs (near Uluru)
Albury, Wentworth, Yunta, Marree, Curtain Springs (near Uluru)
This was the first 2500km of a 7100km trip From Albury - Alice and back. We smashed the GPS on day 4 so this is all the plot I have :( Its 90% good dirt roads suitable (except around Scotia) for any level rider on any adventure bike. Notes: the most notable leg was Wentworth to Yunta. It is 362km between fuel stops here so top up in Wentworth. The Anabranch rd was fantastic and fast and even if you only do this bit out of Wentorth to avoid some tar to Broken Hill it is worth it. Things got rougher then the closer you get to Scotia but still weren't hard. A 40km odd section however around Scotia sanctuary was challenging due to deep sand and rutted overgrown tracks. Some of these tracks look like they've not seen a vehicle in years and make you nervous about your Navs, trust the GPS plot, we didn't have problem. Lots of gates and lots of Goats! Other than that Wentworth to Yunta was a 120-130km/h hoot on curvy undulating dirt roads and a great way to avoid 500km bitumen via Broken Hill. Another notable leg was Mulga Park rd into Curtain springs. It was raining the day we were there, it was open but probably shouldn't have been. We loved it but unless you are a good rider on a capable off road bike don't attempt this leg in the wet, it is too slippery, dangerous and remote to risk a problem. Dry though I would highly recommend this road to anyone comfortable in shallow sand.

EAST COAST AUSTRALIA - Cape York, Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne 13000km 4 weeks
EAST COAST AUSTRALIA - Cape York, Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne 13000km 4 weeks
NOTE: I updated this file after riding to Sydney in Jan 2014. If you downloaded the gpx file before then please download the new one with much needed corrections made! My contribution to a suggested Continental Divide ride. As much dirt as possible but ensuring easy dirt roads for the most part. Indicated fuel and accommodation spots that I know of, but this is a work in progress and needs input from riders in other areas for full details. I can personally vouch for the details down to Sydney and back, but no further. Visit the "Creating an Aussie Continental Divide Trail" thread on advider.com if you may be able to help with refining the tracks or providing fuel and accommodation details. Please note, these tracks assume experienced riders. I've tried to keep the Sydney to Gympie sections okay for experienced riders on large bikes. However, the tracks north and south from there are from another rider who warns there are sections more suited for experienced riders on lighter bikes e.g. DR650s and similar.

Michelago, Bowra, Eurobodalla, Moruya, Araluen, Captains Flat
Michelago, Bowra, Eurobodalla, Moruya, Araluen, Captains Flat
Unsealed road from Michelago to Numeralla becoming fair-trail after Numeralla till Eurobodalla. Tar to Moruya and unsealed road from Moruya to Captains Flat through Araluen. This track was done on F650GS with knobbies. Can be done on a heavier bike such as R1200GS by experienced rider. The hardest lap is fairtrail, descending from hills to Belowra. Rider must have experience to negotiate steep slopes with closed turns. The elevation drops from 1100 meters to 200 above the sea level on distance of 10km. Fair trail is not frequently used and has washouts. However human presence could be seen where large fallen trees are cut to open the road. Do not take this road after rainy days.

Newcastle to Melbourne
Newcastle to Melbourne
Took delivery of a second hand F800GS in Newcastle, decided to ride it back to Melbourne avoiding as much highway as possible. Probably 30-40% off road, 70-60% on road. Hardest part of the trip was probably the Berrigan Track, and even that was pretty easy. Took it fairly easy and used it as a ride to get used to the bike. Weather was fantastic the whole trip...great roads, great off road.

Sydney NSW to Melbourne VIC loop on mostly dirt roads & tracks
Sydney NSW to Melbourne VIC loop on mostly dirt roads & tracks
A mix of dirt roads and some bitumen from Sydney to Melbourne, then almost all dirt roads heading back further out west. Sketchy on details so will need further research if you do this loop. First half is an actual tracklog given to me by another rider on a DR650 so should suit most bikes. The second half is courtesy of GPS Oz via the 4wdaction.com.au website which has a forum that discusses this route and others. It is drawn from a pile of GPS coordinates so distances won't be accurate as it isn't an actual trip log of the route.
